Annual Campaign

The Foundation's Annual Campaign includes two major drives: Back-to-School and Community-Wide. Your donations to these drives can be directed to either the Foundation's Annual Campaign or the Endowment Fund.

Back-to-School Drive

In August, the Foundation kicks off the Annual Campaign with a mailing to all school families. In September, board members participate in Back-to-School nights, making presentations in all elementary school classrooms and at the junior high and senior high schools' parent assemblies. The goal of the Back-to-School Drive is to provide all residents with children in the LCUSD with information about the Foundation and to encourage 100% participation in the Foundation's Annual Campaign.

Community-Wide Drives

Each December and May, the Annual Campaign is expanded to encompass the entire La Cañada Flintridge community. These Drives provide residents who do not have children in the La Cañada public schools with the opportunity to help their community by ensuring the quality of our schools.

Riteway Charity Services

Riteway Charity Services of Sun Valley will forward 100% of the net proceeds from used vehicle donations which are Foundation designated to benefit La Cañada public schools.

The process of donating a vehicle to support the Foundation is simple: All of the administrative details, including Department of Motor Vehicles paper work, bill of sale and transfer of title, are initiated by a phone call to Riteway or a visit to their website. The donor completes one form for release of liability, and then has his name removed from the title of the vehicle.

Riteway Charity Services is located at 9723 Glenoaks Blvd., Sun Valley, CA 91352. To donate, please call (888) 250-4490 or go to Riteway's website at http://www.ritewaycharityservices.com/

Transferring securities held by you

Fortunately, Uncle Sam still encourages charity through the income tax deduction. Despite many recent tax law changes, the charitable deduction remains. There are a variety of ways you can help support the LCF Educational Foundation while reaping the benefits of these deductions. A growing number of LCF Educational Foundation donors are making contributions of stock for two significant reasons:

  1. Donors receive a deduction for the full current market value, not the original cost.
  2. Donors avoid the 20% capital gain tax on the stock's appreciation cost.

Example: Mr. & Mrs. Jones own stock purchased for $4000 and now worth $10,000. They are in the 25% tax bracket. They donate the stock, reducing their income taxes by $2,500 and they avoid a capital gain tax of $1,200 (20% of $6,000 appreciation) for a total of $3,700 in tax benefits. The net result is the Foundation receives a gift of $10,000 that cost Mr. & Mrs. Jones $300, the original cost of the stock minus the tax benefits.

Mail your unendorsed stock certificate to the attention of Sonja Bradley, Treasurer, c/o the LCF Educational Foundation, and include a transmittal letter indicating whether your gift is for the Endowment Fund or the Annual Campaign. Under separate cover, mail a stock power endorsed in blank, and include a copy of the letter that accompanies the stock certificate. The date of the gift for tax purposes is the latter of the two postmarks. Please contact the Foundation office for more information.
